Privacy Policy

What we collect, and what we don't.

Last updated · May 29, 2026

PatentBrief is operated by an individual based in Phoenix, Arizona. We try to collect as little personal information as possible. This page describes what we do collect, what we do with it, and how to ask us to delete it.

What we collect when you visit

When you view any public page on patentbrief.org, our hosting provider (Vercel) logs the IP address of your request, the URL, the time, and the user-agent string of your browser. These access logs are retained by Vercel for up to 30 days for abuse prevention and basic analytics. We do not personally read or correlate these logs with named individuals.

We use Google Analytics to aggregate page-view counts. Google Analytics is configured to anonymize IP addresses. We do not use Google Analytics for advertising or cross-site tracking.

What we collect when you save patents

Saved patents are stored only in your own browser's localStorage. Nothing about your saved list ever reaches our servers. If you clear your browser data, your saved list disappears with it.

What we collect when you subscribe to newsletters or alerts

If you submit your email address to the newsletter or to a patent-alert form, we store that address in our database for the sole purpose of sending you the content you signed up for. We use Resend to deliver the actual emails. We never sell, rent, or share email addresses with any third party.

Every email we send includes a one-click unsubscribe link. Following that link removes your address from our system permanently.

What we collect when you contact us

If you submit the contact form or email us, we keep the message and your reply address to respond to you. We do not use contact-form submissions for any marketing purpose.

Cookies

We do not use cookies for advertising, tracking, or marketing. Google Analytics uses a small number of first-party cookies to count returning visitors. There are no third-party advertising cookies on this site.

Your rights

You can ask us to delete any personal data we hold about you. Email hello@patentbrief.org with the subject "Delete my data" and the email address you used. We will remove your record from our database within 7 days and confirm by reply.

If you are in the EU, UK, or California, you have additional rights under GDPR / UK GDPR / CCPA — including the right to ask what we store about you. The contact email above is the same for all such requests.

Children

PatentBrief is intended for an adult audience interested in U.S. patents. We do not knowingly collect any information from children under 13.

Changes

If we materially change this Privacy Policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of the page. We will not retroactively apply any new policy to data collected under an older version.
