The Innovation Index is a weighted composite of four 0–100 dimension scores. Velocity (35%): 3-year filing CAGR computed as (2023–2025 count / 2020–2022 count)^(1/3) − 1, mapped to a 0–100 scale where 40%+ CAGR = 100. Quality (30%): average forward citations per patent, mapped to a 0–100 scale where 30+ citations = 100. Openness (20%): inverse Herfindahl-Hirschman Index — lower market concentration gives higher scores; HHI <500 = 100, HHI >10,000 = 0. Opportunity (15%): percentage of the domain's portfolio expiring 2025–2029, mapped to 0–100 where 40%+ expiring = maximum opportunity. Tiers: Emergent (CAGR ≥10% + avg cit ≥5), Dominant (≥3,000 patents + flat growth), Mature (≥500 patents), Declining (otherwise). Domain assignment from AI-generated industry tags; patents may count in multiple domains.
