High CAGR → strategic priority
A company growing filings at 40%/yr is signaling a major strategic bet. This is often the first sign of an emerging competitive threat before products ship.
Declining filings → retreat or pivot
Companies that cut filing rates may be: (1) shifting R&D focus, (2) cost-cutting, (3) pivoting to trade secrets, or (4) divesting from that technology area.
The 2021-2023 window
